Amira Clemens, PhD, RN

CEO | Founder

Dr. Amira Clemens is a practicing nurse, educator, researcher, and author with a lifelong passion for healthcare and community empowerment. She founded The Cultural Institute of Health and Education (CIHE) with a mission to break down barriers to education and provide free vocational training for those aspiring to enter the healthcare field.

Dr. Clemens’ journey—from earning her first nursing degree at Community College of Philadelphia to receiving her bachelor’s, master’s at Thomas Jefferson, and PhD from Drexel University—reflects her deep commitment to education, mentorship, and community development.

Her research interests focus on mental health and homelessness among Black youth aging out of foster care, a passion that earned her the CNHP Dean’s PhD Student Research Award.

What is your biggest challenge in operating CIHE?

Our biggest challenge in operating CIHE is access to adequate resources, essential tools/equipment, and a dedicated space to support our growing student base. As we expand, the demand for modern medical training tools, hands-on learning materials, and classroom space continues to increase. Limited resources can impact the quality of training we provide, making it challenging to fully equip students with the skills and experience they need to excel in the healthcare field. Securing the necessary funding and space will allow us to enhance our programs, improve hands-on learning opportunities, and ultimately help more students gain the certifications needed for career advancement.

What is the impact CIHE on the community?

Our organization fosters economic growth and development by equipping individuals with marketable skills in the healthcare field. By providing accessible, entry-level training in essential healthcare roles, we empower community members with career opportunities, strengthen the local workforce, and contribute to the overall well-being of our healthcare system.

Who are your students and how does CIHE uniquely meet their needs?

Our students are individuals from underserved black communities who aspire to enter the healthcare field but face financial, educational, and accessibility barriers. Many are career changers, recent high school graduates, or working professionals seeking better opportunities.

CIHE uniquely meets their needs by offering affordable, high-quality training in Phlebotomy and EKG, combining hands-on instruction with flexible learning options. We provide financial assistance, career guidance, and direct pathways to employment through partnerships with healthcare institutions. By removing barriers and offering real-world training, we equip our students with the skills, certifications, and confidence needed to succeed in the healthcare industry.
